What can we learn from Dutch street design? SNG Meetup with Fred Young 2/13
Recently back from a 600-mile bicycle journey through northern Europe, Fred’s goal was to experience some of the best bicycle, pedestrian and public transportation facilities in the world. He rode his bike from urban centers to rural villages, transitioned from bike to public transportation, and navigated by using maps and local wayfinding systems and maps. He took 5,000 photographs along the way, some of which he shared in this interactive evening event. YourTube of Fred’s presentation. Portland’s Bureau of Transportation heard Seattle Neighborhood Greenways organizers Eli Goldberg, Bob Edmiston, and Cathy Tuttle share some of the key ways that Portland’s work has inspired us — and we introduced them to the kinds of amazing programs that have resulted from their inspiration. We shared the unique magic that is born when programs are invented and designed by community professionals bringing a diverse, multi-disciplinary perspective — public health, anthropology, and even biology and software user experience. Designing Streets for Everyone SNG Meetup with Mike Hendrix 4/12.
Michael Hendrix, “Traffic Mike,” has been working on designing neighborhood greenways and other bike facilities for over 10 years. He has also conducted research on bike facilities, some of which will be included in the NACTO Urban Bikeway Design Guide’s new chapter on Neighborhood Greenways. YouTube of Mike’s talk.

A Legacy of Greenways Dongho Chang & Peter Hahn SNG Meetup 3/12.
As the Director of the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), Peter Hahn directly oversees the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) staff of 750 City employees to preserve and enhance Seattle’s $12 billion dollar transportation system. His continued leadership has been instrumental in establishing Neighborhood Greenways in Seattle. Dongho Chang joined SDOT in late 2011 as the City’s Chief Traffic Engineer after a stint as the Everett Traffic Engineer. Chang, a Seattle resident, was a member of the Seattle Bicycle Advisory Board while the Bicycle Master Plan was being crafted in 2006. He’s excited to help address new road design changes and we’re excited to learn how he envisions safe, low stress transportation options. Blake is the Statewide Policy Director of the Bicycle Alliance of Washington. In this presentation, Blake walks through the context for Seattle’s current (2007) Bicycle Master Plan: who was involved in it? What was the vision? What were the biggest challenges?
