We did it! Thanks to your incredible support, Seattle Prop 1 passed in a landslide victory, with over 250,000 votes (67%) in favor! This renewal of Seattle’s transportation levy marks a generational investment in building a safe, sustainable, and accessible transportation system for everyone.
A Heartfelt Thank You
This victory is thanks to YOU — the advocates, volunteers, and voters who believed in a better future for Seattle. Whether you knocked on doors, put up signs, reminded friends to vote, or helped shape the levy into something truly transformational, your efforts made all the difference.
What Seattle Prop 1 Will Achieve in Its Lifetime
Together, we secured unprecedented investments for Seattle’s future:
$193M for Pedestrian Safety & Accessibility
The largest sidewalk investment in Seattle’s history — 350 new blocks of sidewalks! It includes a 75% increase over the Mayor’s initial proposal and created a funding task force to address the backlog of missing/damaged sidewalks.
$160.5M for Vision Zero & Neighborhood Safety
Safety projects on all five of Seattle’s most dangerous streets, including Aurora Ave N, MLK Jr. Way S, Rainier Ave S, and Lake City Way. A new program proposed by SDOT’s Transportation Equity Workgroup would amplify community-driven ideas and equitably distribute safety funding.
$133.5M for Bike Routes
This was the largest bike investment in Seattle's history, with critical projects like N 130th St, Beacon Ave S, and S Henderson St.
$66.5M for People Streets & Public Spaces
A new program to reimagine streets as places for pedestrian plazas, small business seating, gardens, and more.
Seattle Prop 1 passed with over 250,000 yes votes, winning in almost every neighborhood across the city.
The Road to Get Here
These wins are the result of a multi-year campaign:
Phase 1: Shaping the Seattle Transportation Plan
Thanks to our advocacy the plan included:
- A new section on People Streets and Public Spaces.
- A vision for a world-class citywide bike network was included.
- A commitment to “lead with safety” and incorporate safety measures into every major project was secured.
Through public records requests, action alerts, testimonies, meetings with staff, and engagement campaigns, we ensured the final plan passed unanimously through the Seattle City Council in April of this year.
Phase 2: Improving the Keep Seattle Moving Levy
Co-leading a broad coalition of organizations, we pushed Seattle to meet its climate, safety, and equity goals. Our efforts included:
- Organizing rallies, press events, and a voter poll to advocate for a stronger levy.
- Sending 1,700 grassroots emails to city leaders.
- Persistently advocating for enough funding to meet Seattle's needs, resulting in an additional $250 million for walking, biking, and safety investments.
As The Stranger aptly put it:
“Mayor Bruce Harrell proposed a puny, baby little levy… Thanks to the tireless work of advocates, the mayor and council cranked that number up by $250 million, earmarking 45% for multimodal transportation.”
Phase 3: Passing the Levy
Our staff and volunteers were instrumental in securing this win. From public storytelling and celebrating past projects to leading door-knocking campaigns, hosting press events, and installing hundreds of campaign signs, we worked tirelessly to educate voters about the levy’s importance.
What’s Next?
Transforming Seattle’s streets takes three ingredients: a good plan, steady funding, and political will. Thanks to the passage of Seattle Prop 1, we now have the plan and funding.
However, challenges remain. Political opposition and resistance to change are inevitable. That's why we need you to stay engaged and continue advocating until this funding turns into tangible construction that gives us safer, more sustainable transportation options across Seattle.
Thank you for making history with us. Onwards!
